Fertile SoilFertile Soil is a participatory food installation exploring how communities grow through shared ground. The project invites people to gather around an edible landscape made from vegetables, herbs and fermented elements arranged like a living terrain. The work treats soil as both a literal and symbolic foundation. Soil holds nutrients, but it also holds stories: the traces of people, cultures and histories layered over time.Through food, Fertile Soil becomes a space where strangers temporarily form a small ecosystem. Eating becomes an act of listening, and the landscape slowly dissolves into the bodies and memories of those who share it.

Building BreadThe project was inspired by an interview with someone who lived in Bajesdorp during the time when the houses were squatted and formed a small community of artists and activists. In the conversation he recalled the communal kitchen nights of that period, where people cooked and ate together. One memory stood out: a French resident who was known for making the most delicious croutons. That story became the starting point for the work.During the event, participants were invited to collectively build this temporary bread house on the imagined foundations of the former building. Through this act, a memory of the place was rebuilt together. The event took place at GROND, the artist collective now located in the new residential building that stands on the former Bajesdorp site.

Smaken van mij Herinnering
(Flavours of My Memory)Smaken van mijn Herinnering is an ongoing artistic research project that translates personal and collective memories into food. The project began with interviews with people connected to the Bajeskwartier in Amsterdam — former prison workers, neighbours, and people who lived through different phases of the area’s history. Instead of presenting these stories only as text or sound, the memories are interpreted through ingredients, flavours and edible forms. Each story becomes part of an evolving “edible landscape”: dishes, textures and tastes that reflect fragments of lived experience. Visitors encounter history not only through listening, but through tasting.By transforming memories into food, the project explores how flavour can carry emotion, identity and place. Eating becomes a way of engaging with history — not as something distant, but as something that can be felt, shared and embodied.
